wtf.

so two people have brought this commercial to my attention.

first of all i'd like to say wtf?

commercials for preservatives now?

and secondly i'll tell you what they say about it ...

how over processed it is and how it could affect your liver...

its affecting the sky rocketing obesity rate in america in a bad way..

it makes us eat even more than we need...

oh and... its refined, processed 'sugar' (which normally is bad enough for you) made from most likely genetically modified corn... which is a whole other subject... gmo foods.

this outraged aunt lisa, it outraged flo, and it outrages me that our society will continue to find ways to lie to itself so it can revel in its own self destruction.

i LOVE how they made the woman who, yea without back up, but still was actually trying to look out for the health of the children was made to look like an idiot. so its idiotic to try and eat healthier? even if you dont have all the answers?

i could go on for an hour about how people shouldn't even be giving their children regular 100% juice that has NO added sugar in it.... but to think its ok to give them juice or whatever the hell that was with not only added sugar, probably no real juice, but also genetically modified corn syrup used as an artificial sweetener?

have we no morals about what we put into these precious little bodies of the children who depend on us?

the people who made this commercial aren't people who dont know what they are talking about. they know, they know EXACTLY what they are doing.

this is NOT ok.

my ass is officially chapped.

i would challenge anyone who doesn't agree with me to stop eating ALL food with high fructose corn syrup in it for 3 months and just see how much weight you would lose and how much better you feel inside.

there's another one...exact same concept but with shitty sugar filled popsicles. these commercials creep me out. i guess they're made by some corn growers of america group or something...but shouldn't they use money (if they're going to use money for advertising) to talk about how great veggies are for you instead of corn syrup. goodness!

Whaaaaaaat? Who even has the balls to MAKE this kind of stuff? I have to say, the no high fructose challenge is NO small task... I read the back of EVERYTHING, and really theres not too much that you buy in a package that DOESNT have it these days. Sad but true. It is horrible stuff. Do you know how long its been such a trend to put this stuff in virtually EVERYTHING you buy? I would be curious to find out if the obesity rate has really risen dramatically as hfcs has become more of a prominent ingredient in everything...

I'm with you. I sent them an email saying how obnoxious these commercials are and that the next time they make commercials, they should mention the side effects of HFCS, like drug commercials do. It also pissed me off that the people in the commercials who don't want to eat the HFCS are made to look like idiots! These ads remind me of Erin Brockovich, how PG&E tells everyone that chromium is good for them when it's actually killing them. Completely ridiculous. On another note, did you read the article about the FDA reviewing genetically engineered ANIMALS?!

i know you did josh and you look fiiiiiiiiiine.

this makes me sick ... how can they think this is a good idea? I heard about it and am glad that it's on your blog. NASTY

This is seiously crazy! I can't even believe that it is seious! NASTY! it makes me laugh because of how out of this world it is!

yeah, this commercial PISSED me off. And while I'm one of those who might not necessarily know all the ins and outs of why stuff like this is bad for you, I at least know that they are and am slowly educating myself.

RETARDED.

skylana,
is it really hard to not eat? i guess i don't know how many foods have high fructose corn syrup in them....would it be really challenging to completely avoid? i want to try.

skylana said...

kimberlea- at first its hard, if you eat a lot of boxed foods or juice or other drinks... but after a while its not even an issue... i pretty much never want to buy something and dont cause it has hfcs in it, the stuff i want just doesn't have it in it. but you do have to check EVERY thing. i mean like even bread... but like i've said before probably the best bread as far as sugar goes is ezekiel, cause there's non in it. anyway, just check ALL your ingredients if you get boxed food. but hey all fruits, veggies, tofu etc (whole foods) you dont have to check at all! if you get real into it try to get stuff without modified corn starch, hydroginated oils, and sugar at least in the first 5 ingredients... oh and also when you eat out, you can pretty much be sure you're eating some. ...

first. oh shit. is this what commercials are like now?!?! (we don't watch t.v.) and second we're doing this, not eating hfcs.

it's crazy! we pretty much eat local yogurt with local honey, dry beans (canned beans have hfcs) and rice, some chicken, but always fresh ("lunch" meat all has hfcs) seriously. just look at the label. you'll find your trips to the store are easier, we only go down like 3 aisles. and the local farmers are getting more and more of our weekly food money.

skylana-so i've asked you quite a few questions in the last few weeks about food and i wanted to thank you for mentioning trader joes. we have quite a few here in washington but i didn't know normal people shopped there (i'm a dork). i went today and i've never been so excited about organic bananas or whole wheat pasta in my entire life. i usually could care less about cooking but now it's sort of like a game and i like it. and i had a pesto pizza with brocolli from joes which normally i would never eat but i made myself buy it. delish. thanks.

ha I was going OFF about these commercials yesterday... this and the Popsicle one.

It completely reminds me of the old cigarette commercials. Have you actually checked out their website?

HFCSFacts.com

ridiculous! hopefully enough people write informed letters that they rethink their little ad campaign. I'm working on mine.

Love the red dye in the punch too. It's sad that American food is so cheaply made. Well back to the 70's and making food at home again with ingredients we can trust! I love that you actually have people over for dinner Skylana, and make real food, it's a dying art.

i've been trying to become more aware of what i'm eating and appreciate your posts about this. i was curious when i read this...what do you give your daughter to drink? does she not drink any juice at all? thanks! steph

skylana said...

hey steph.. yea arabella doesn't drink juice... she has before, but i could probably count how many times she's had juice on one hand and when i give her juice i make sure its 100% juice and then i fill her cup about 3/4 of the way with water and 1/4 with the juice. day to day she drinks about 1 cup of soy milk (cause she's allergic to cows milk and goats milk, but i am looking into raw milk now...) but i limit the soy because soy is in question as to what its affects are on children especially... and then the rest of the time she just drinks water.

skylana said...

oh also i forgot to say that i have given her a bit of naked green juice before because i figure if she's gonna have the sugar she might as well have it with the broccoli and spirulina instead of all alone!
