book me

so i had gotten all these suggestions for books on my facebook, then i threatened rape on my husband and lost my facebook.

so..... i lost all my suggestions (and the vlog people so lets give it up ok? its gone)

anyway i need a novel. i need romance.

for example a book i read REPEATEDLY was the scarlet pimpernel.

i love books during wars, i love books that take place a long long time ago... i dont love books about the now or 90s. or 80's.... or any time the picture the author paints of their clothing could end up in a fashion disaster.

ok... go.

Meg suggested Anna Karenina and I totally agree. One of my favorites.

I suggested Flannery O'Connor--she writes about the American South circa 1950s. I've been picking at her short stories for some time now and it is really great. Meg also suggested "Fables" which I also affirm. It's a series of graphic novels though so you may not be interested.

What else...

Oh, and the BIBLE.

skylana- you must listen to me- read Atlas Shrugged. It's not an option. You must read it. MUST! It's by Ayn Rand. I've been re-reading it the last few weeks. Go get it!!

A Farewell to Arms.
War-time-love-sappy-cry-at-the-end-perfection.
And it's Hemingway...so it could never be bad.

I read books like crazy, but I only read non-fiction. I'm reading one right now that I think you'd like, "How the World Makes Love." by Franz Wisner, author of Honeymoon w/my Brother (haven't read that one). He travels the world and learns from the people in different countries about marriage/love/sex...it's neat.

I read a ton of memoirs, or true crime, so it's not war, or non-80s 90s necessarily, but you've mentioned your views on monogamy and marriage, so that's my book recommendation for ya.

You should have borrowed books from me when you were here. I have tons! I LOVED The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. It's so good. And one of my favorite books of all time is Fall On Your Knees by Ann Marie Macdonald. It's amazing.

So if you want something interesting and kind of sappy, 'Mansfield Park' is the way to go. It's also looooong, so it lasts awhile.
Other good books on my list include 'The Hearts of Horses' (not really about horses but about a female bronc buster in the 1930's), 'The Girl with a Pearl Earring,' 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame,' 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' 'God's Politics' (I think you would like this one...it's pretty much about why Republicans are wrong), 'A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,' 'The Kite Runner,' 'A Thousand Splendid Suns,' 'Water for Elephants,' and pretty much anything else by Jane Austen.
Ok, that's a LOT of books, but I hope there's something in that random smattering that you enjoy!

I don't know about Skylana but I'm so happy with all these suggestions. I'm going shopping right now.

Has anyone read 'the fountainhead' or 'Anthem' by Ayn Rand?

I didn't read through everyone's ideas, but of course I still suggest Atlas Shrugged and A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken.
